Ausgrid Important Notice: What It Means and How to Get Reconnected

Coming home to find your power off and this notice on the door is stressful. Here's what it means and what happens next.

What an Ausgrid Important Notice is

When Ausgrid's emergency crews attend an incident and find a safety problem with your installation, they disconnect the supply and leave an Important Notice. The ticked boxes tell you what's wrong and who needs to fix it. Endeavour Energy uses a similar notice in its network area.

The defects on this notice

On this job the notice recorded that:

  • The electricity supply had been disconnected for safety reasons
  • The point of attachment, where the service line is fixed to the house or pole, was defective and needed repair or replacement
  • The wiring between the point of attachment and the switchboard was defective and needed replacing
  • A Level 2 ASP was required

Why it needs a Level 2 electrician

The point of attachment and the consumer mains sit on the service side of your installation, between the network and your switchboard. Repairs there, and reconnecting the supply afterwards, can only be done by an Accredited Service Provider Level 2. A regular electrician can't legally reconnect you. See our point of attachment repairs and consumer mains replacement pages.

What happens next

  1. Send us a clear photo of the notice and the damaged area
  2. We attend, make safe and repair or replace the defective parts
  3. We complete the compliance paperwork
  4. We reconnect the supply, or arrange reconnection with the network

Other common items on a notice

  • A defective private pole or post
  • Vegetation growing into private aerial mains
  • A point of attachment damaged by a third party, such as a truck or a fallen tree
  • Temporary repairs made that now need a permanent fix

Frequently asked questions

Can I get my power back on without the repair?

No. The supply stays off until the defects are fixed and the work is certified.

Is it covered by insurance?

Sometimes, especially for storm or third-party damage. We can supply photos and a report for your claim.
