What's included in a meter box replacement

Replacing a meter box involves disconnecting the supply, removing the old board, fitting a new enclosure and panel, reinstating the meter and reconnecting. If the old board may contain asbestos, it's removed and disposed of safely.

What affects the cost

Asbestos. Older black boards are treated as containing asbestos, which adds safe removal and disposal.
Relocation. Moving the meter box to a new wall means new mains and possibly a new service route.
Switchboard upgrade. Many owners replace fuses with circuit breakers and safety switches at the same time.
Number of meters. Off-peak, solar and multiple tenancies add metering.
Consumer mains. If the existing mains are too short or undersized, they're replaced.
