Underground Service lines
Underground service line: These cables are mostly wired in a 4 core XLPE and size usually determines the demand of power for the consumer – standard homes 16mm XLPE. Most suburbs in Sydney that were developed after the 1970’s were designed and built using this method. Most underground connections go back to either a street light pole or a network turret.
ADVANTAGES: of having underground service mains are that they are not exposed and that they are hard to collide with (e.g. trucks and car accidents)
DISADVANTAGES: of having underground service mains are – if you have a problem such as a short circuit, the replacement can get expensive as excavation and concrete work may necessary.
